About Me
Every once in a while I like to jump on here and introduce myself for anyone new who might be following.
My name is Dr. Colette Lord, and my clients call me Colette. I am a licensed psychologist with nearly 20 years of experience doing therapy. Being a therapist and working with trauma has been what I wanted to do for as long as I can remember. For me, it is more of a calling than a job, something I feel I was put on this earth to do.
Part of this calling is a responsibility to give back. I have worked most of my career in public mental health settings serving those with limited/no resources. In that work there was an emphasis on equalizing the power dynamic between clinician and client, which very much aligns with my belief that I am not above anyone. I have training and experience in helping others, but no one is more of an expert on you than you.
I believe that everyone deserves access to the best quality mental health care and I have tried to live this value through education and advocacy. I am passionate about issues of social justice and am not afraid to say that.
One of my primary goals with this social media page is to help spread information, empathy and self-compassion around issues of trauma, dissociation, and the trans and non-binary experience. When people come to my page, I want them to feel seen, because I know how important it is.
I am passionate about helping people let go of the pain of their past, live more fully in the present and develop hope for the future.
