Caring for your mental health in unprecedented times
We are living through unprecedented and abnormal times politically right now and that matters when it comes to your mental health.
It is important to honor both our needs to disconnect and rest, with the need to stay informed and active in the fight for human rights.
Our society and social media in particular is really good about helping us to ignore reality and become inured to human suffering. That is why it can be especially important to take breaks, limit doom scrolling, and be mindful of how your nervous system is responding to the media you take in.
Staying connected to people IRL – friends, family, community, etc are equally important to our mental health and our ability to continue to show up in this fight.
It doesn’t have to be an either or, as so often is the case, both competing needs are important.
