This week I had a client tell me something wonderful. We were talking about a difficult situation and how he was inspired to push himself to show me how our work impacted him.

When therapy is working, it shouldn’t stay in the therapy office and it never ceases to amaze and humble me when clients tell me how they remembered my words or heard my encouragement or thought of how I would encourage them.

But even better is seeing how they show up for themselves and my client telling me he felt like a superhero to himself is what I want for all of my clients.

And this is a lovely example of how healthy, secure attachments in adulthood can translate into internalized caregiving and reparenting.
