  • Dissociation and Substances

Dissociation can be caused by alcohol, drug and/or medication use. These dissociative experiences can come while under the influence of these substances or during withdrawal. These dissociative experiences can be transitory or they can become more chronic and persistent.

And people with Dissociative Disorders may use substances to cope with, manage, or minimize their dissociative experiences. In such cases treatment really needs to address both the dissociative disorder and the substance disorder.
