Diversity Equity and Inclusion
As February is Black History Month, I feel I must speak to the current hot topic of Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI).
As many others have been pointing out, the assumption that BIPOC individuals are only hired due to their skin color and as token for DEI is an inherently racist assumption.
It ignores any of the actual qualifications of the individual and the historical systems of power and oppression that work to keep BIPOC individuals from being interviewed and hired for jobs they are absolutely qualified (or over-qualified) for.
And in case you were unaware, the single biggest group to benefit from DEI hiring has been white women.
