  • Healing in the current political climate

We aren’t talking nearly enough about the current administration is retraumatizing for clients who grew up with emotionally and verbally abusive, gaslighting, authoritarian, or narcissistic caregivers.

When we talk about how hard it is to heal when you are living in the same environment that harmed you, that includes the political/cultural environment.

The first step is to acknowledge what is happening, to not minimize it. Acknowledge the fear, the desire to flee, or fawn, or freeze, or faint. Take care of yourself and your nervous system. Take breaks to ground, rest, recharge.

And then get in touch with your anger and rage, that will help to activate your fight response. Find ways to empower yourself and your community. Find ways to connect.

Fighting looks different for everyone. There have been some wonderful resources other have shared about the different roles we may play in this fight. The world needs all our voices, all our contributions, big and small, visible and invisible.

That is how we fight to heal in this current cultural moment.
