Getting excited about this week’s EMDRIA conference and so I’m diving back into Queering EMDR Therapy, edited by Roshini Chabra, LMFT.

In the chapter by horizon greene, LCSW, they write, “Knowing that we heal when we have access to both enough activation (a foot in the pain) and safety (a foot in the present, knowing I belong), relationship is, therefore, also the site of healing.”

I was moved by this statement centering the relationship and the realness of the therapist within that relationship as an important ingredient in the healing process.

As an EMDR Consultant I am often talking to clients and consultees about the importance of clients having one foot in the past and one in the present when doing reprocessing. This is a nuance to the understanding I hadn’t considered before.
