Mental health is not about pretending everything is fine, or that everything is back to ‘normal’ after a global pandemic.

Toxic positivity is a movement that is all about denying the negative, as in “good vibes only.” A healthier way is to hold space for both the positive and negative. For example: Yes it’s been hard AND I am hopeful about the future.

But let’s be real. We have lived through and are still living through a global pandemic. Our bodies have changed, the mental health of many of us has changed, the way we work has changed, and maybe our health has changed.

So much has been affected, and I get it, I am tired of it too, but it’s still a fact of our lives.

And I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to go back to the way things were. Remember the protests at the beginning of COVID with people taking a stand against racism? Well racism was the old way, and continues to be the way and I still want to change that.

We have learned that we absolutely can accommodate remote work and flexible schedules that many with disabilities have been denied for years. I don’t want to go back to that way of operating.

What are things you would prefer not to return to?
