  • Narcissism

There is a lot on social media these days about Narcissists, but you will rarely see me posting about narcissists myself nor sharing much content from others on the subject.

I do this for a variety of reasons. The first is that I feel it places too much emphasis on the diagnosis and the supposed Narcissist. My focus will always remain on the person harmed and the harm done, regardless of who does the harming and why.

Secondly, I feel that it encourages people to rush to label and overuse this term when we don’t have enough info.

Thirdly, I think there is a lot of harm being done to people by others who do not meet criteria for the label of Narcissist, and yet the harm is still done. And I don’t want those who have been harmed by others who do not see those others as Narcissists to feel like their harm is not valid.

And finally, I am cautious because many people may have narcissistic characteristics or moments, that doesn’t mean they are Narcissists nor do they need to be vilified as such.
