Quote by James Islington

In his book, The Will of the Many, James Islington writes “Chain your anger in the dark, my mother used to tell me, and it will only thrive.”
This is true of all emotions that we try to deny, suppress or contain.
By our very efforts against them we prolong their presence and feed energy to them, making the emotions stronger.
Emotions are meant to be felt and expressed. By expressing them, I mean many things, perhaps talking about them, exploring them, acting on them, listening to music that affirms them, or creating art about them.
Expressing our emotions allows them and their associated energy to flow, rather than linger and grow.
Emotions are important data about our experiences, thoughts and values. Anger lets us know that there is a value or a boundary that feels like it’s been violated. It tells us, “I am not okay with this.”
That doesn’t mean that emotions are always right, or always based on current events, but they are part of the data to be considered.
In this society that devalues emotions and feelings, it’s important to remember that we are hard wired to have emotions. They are meant to be here and to be felt.
