Joseph Campbell said, “It is by going down into the abyss that we recover the treasures of life. Where you stumble, there lies your treasure.”

Trauma and painful life experiences create deep chasms within the heart, the mind and the soul.

I believe that the treasure to be found there is the healing that comes from facing those depths.

When we stumble, when we make mistakes, when we relapse, those are the times that draw our attention to those places that remain unhealed, or where more learning is needed.

Having an abyss, or stumbling along your way to healing does not signal you are a weak or bad person. It means you survived, it means you are learning and growing. It means you are still here and have not given up.

In facing the past, you are more likely to be able to let go of the pain you carry, to live more fully in the present, and even develop hope for the future.

It is never too late for healing.
