  • To Survive On This Shore

I recently was made aware of this book, To Survive on This Shore: Photographs and Interviews with Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Older Adults by Jess T. Dugan.

This book is the result of five years of work by photographer Jess T. Dugan and social worker Vanessa Fabbre to document the lived experience of transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) older adults.

So often when TGNC folks are shown in popular media, the focus is on young people, and there are many more of these youngsters and young adults on social media documenting and representing their lives.

But TGNC folks have always been here and this book helps give them a platform and a face to those elders of the community. This books contains images and stories of TGNC who exist at the intersection of many identies and live all throughout the US.

To those TGNC adults and older adults, you deserve to see yourself and know that you are not alone. I hope this is a page where you can feel that and I encourage you to check out this lovely book.
