Trans Mental Health
Let’s talk mental health among gender diverse folks and spread some factual knowledge.
Trans and non-binary individuals have higher rates of mental health issues, starting in childhood because of minority stress, barriers to care, and discrimination/violence.
Research shows that rates of mental illness are even higher among this group when they live in states without discrimination protection and hate crime laws protecting gender identity.
Research show that the majority of individuals receiving gender affirming medical care (hormones or surgery) are happy with the results and report improved quality of life.
Gender diverse adults who are living authentically as themselves report decreases in depression, suicidal ideation and anxiety.
They report a reduction in binge drinking and drug use.
They report improved self-image, dating and sex life.
