    Affirmative Therapy

Affirmative therapy is an approach to therapy that explicitly affirms the lived experiences of gender diverse people, those who are trans, non-binary, gender fluid, etc.

Affirmative therapy acknowledges and holds space for all aspects of an individual’s identity because they all play a role in the person’s life and experiences.

Too many trans folx have had bad experiences with therapists who have questioned or invalidated their experience. Which makes them less likely to seek therapy again in the future, as well as increasing risk of suicidal thoughts and actions.

We as a profession have a duty to do no harm, to continue our professional growth so that we can appropriately serve gender diverse individuals.

To that end I have put together a self-study training course that will be available for CEUs. There will be client videos and a thorough exploration of trans experiences and how to be a more affirming therapist. If you are interested in learning more, click here.
