It comes as a surprise to some of my clients that as we process their traumatic experiences, they sometimes find that they are able to remember positive experiences as well.

This is not a guaranteed experience, but it happens often.

The idea is that these positive experiences have been hidden by the overwhelming experience or number of traumatic memories. Once that blanket of negative memories has been lifted then they can ‘see’ the positive memories that had been hidden.

I think this is important to note, because there is often the perception that their history was one of nothing but negative experience, emotions and people. But this is very rarely the case and it helps provide a more balanced and realistic view of their past to see both the positive and the negative.
