EMDR via telehealth

I would imagine that I was a like a lot of EMDR therapists at the start of the pandemic, unsure about doing EMDR therapy online. Mostly due to my own comfort level, and somewhat due to being unsure how effective it would be.
And like many EMDR therapists over the course of the last year and a half, I have greatly increased my comfort and willingness to provide EMDR therapy online.
We can still guide you in the eye movements or the tapping, and it just takes a bit of prep work the first couple sessions to get the camera set up right and get into whatever flow works best for the client and me.
And to be honest, that’s not much different than when I am doing EMDR therapy in the office.
The same considerations regarding if it’s appropriate hold for EMDR therapy as other therapies. Can the client allow themselves to be honest and speak their mind, or are some of their issues related to others in the home? Or do they live in a situation in which they have no privacy?
So don’t let the possibility of telehealth keep you from taking that first step and reaching out to begin therapy.
