  • Janet Mock Quote

None of us is ever done on the journey toward our true selves. It does not matter if you are a teenager just starting to truly grapple with issues of identity or if you are a 90-year-old. Every day we are faced with decisions about how to identify ourselves and who we want to be and how we want to be seen in the world.

And let’s say this one more time for the people in the back, IT IS OKAY TO CHANGE YOUR MIND AND CHANGE DIRECTION. This too is a normal, human experience. Just because you knew who you were yesterday, doesn’t mean you can’t realize that who you are has changed, evolved or needs to shift for some reason. And it is absolutely okay for this changeability to last a lifetime.

This journey for trans, non-binary and fluid individuals is played out much more in the public eye so to speak, but the journey itself is no different. It is just society’s interpretation of and response to this journey that makes it so different and often difficult.

As I have said in the past, who I am today and how I see myself as a woman in this world and how I want to present myself as such has changed over time and will continue to do so.
