    I know it’s a hard truth to swallow, but healing is difficult.

    Healing can be painful.

    Healing takes time.

    But being unhealthy and dysfunctional is painful too, and often has been going on for years and years.

    Healing is worth the effort and the time and the pain.

    Often in therapy, we find that people go through a period of feeling worse before they feel better.

    And in EMDR therapy we use the analogy of a train going through a tunnel. Just because the tunnel is getting dark and scary, it is unhelpful to take your foot off the gas, because then you are left stuck in this dark and scary tunnel. If you can continue through those dark, scary moments you will find the other side, you will find the sun and you will find the healing.
