This Public Service Announcement brought to you by the current debate in the media and politics around the accusations of sexual assault by Dr Blasey Ford against Brett Kavanaugh. So first let me say, unequivocally, that there are many people who experience sexual assault or violence who do not report or who wait years, maybe decades to do so. This in no way diminishes their credibility or the reality of what has happened to them. There are very valid concerns that people have about reporting such crimes, including but not limited to fears of not being believed, fears of being victimized again by the criminal justice system and fears of retaliation. However a person decides to handle their assault, it is their right and we must honor that. To all of you out there who have experienced sexual violence: I hear you, I see you, I BELIEVE YOU! If you or someone you know has been the victim of sexual assault, there is help out there: Sexual Assault Hotline 1-800-656-HOPE (4673).
