In working with clients who have had abuse, neglect and chaos while growing up I find that secrets and silence are two regular themes. There is a perception that silence keeps them safe, but what is not spoken tends to eat away at the soul. It wears you down and isolates you from others who will love you for just who you are and it alienates you from your true self. When it is unspoken, the secret seem bigger than it is, all consuming. But once you speak your truth to someone, you will find it can become easier to live with. So find that safe someone to speak your truth to, whether its a friend, a teacher, a family member, a pastor, whoever. And if you can’t find someone in the community call a therapist.
