We humans have so much more in common than we like to believe. I know that it is a time of great social divides, and we tend to see those in other groups or on other sides as so much different from us. But this is simply not true.

We are all human, we all have a basic need for family and acceptance. We all want to live in safety. Why is it that we cannot see the beauty then in the places that we are different. Why do our differences make us afraid of one another? I wish there were an easy answer. From talking to so many people in my time as a therapist, I am struck by how similar the pain and suffering is among us and how our hopes and dreams share so many themes. And also, how wonderfully and beautifully diverse we are at the same time.
