This is one of my favorite poems. It speaks to me and my search for meaning in my own life.

And this is so much of the work to be done when trauma has occurred, particularly attachment trauma. Kids who grow up in homes where there was trauma, abuse, chaos and/or neglect have a very difficult time understanding their childhoods, themselves and their lives.

Healing is about making meaning from our stories.

Doing EMDR therapy is about changing how these traumatic experiences are held by the brain. When we change this, it allows for the client to make new meaning from their stories. So instead of believing that they are broken or unlovable, they are now able to believe that they have value, are capable, and they have become the hero of their stories.
