This is a friendly reminder to friends and family and allies.

When someone comes out to you as trans or non-binary, it will be important for you to do your own work on your own time.

It is not the trans person’s job to hold space for your feelings and reactions to this reality, because they have already been on this journey and done their work.

Expecting the non-binary person to help you emotionally along the way, is emotional labor that they should not be expected to do. Just as you should not be asking the Black folx in your life to explain systemic racism when something horrific happens to a Black person and it blows up in social media.

It is up to each of us to do our own work. There are a ton of resources out there for friends and family. PFLAG has groups for friends and family to get support.
