• Quote by Henry David Thoreau

This is such a beautiful encapsulation of some of our most basic internal conflicts as human beings on this earth.

Emotional walls protect us, but they also can keep us separate from others.

Roots connect us to the earth below us and the community around us, but can keep us in one place if the roots are too deep.

Wings allow us to soar, to create, to live free, but can also leave us unmoored, without protection or connection.

Each person must determine what is the right balance of these elements for themselves. The balance may change over time as we grow and develop and our needs change. The balance and needs may also change with trauma.
