Change is difficult and can often seem impossible. Especially if we are talking about changing systems and societies.

But even on an individual level, change can seem impossible at times. It is not uncommon in my work with folx that they are surprised o learn that things they assumed to be inherent character flaws within them are in fact the product of trauma or learning.

It does not matter how ingrained the behavior is or how many layers of trauma there are, it is possible to change, grow and heal. But it is not impossible.

Everyone is capable of change if you are willing to do the work, find a therapist and get to it. You can learn to let go of the pain of your past, live more fully in the present and develop hope for the future.

Nelson Mandela was an anti-apartheid leader in South Africa. He was imprisoned for 27 years for his work to overthrow the racist government. He was released after mounting international pressure on the government and fears of a racial civil war. He later went on to become South Africa’s first black head of state in 1994.
