This has been a very tough year for everyone. Traditionally for many Americans this is a time to be close to family and reflect on what we are grateful for. Both of these may be more difficult, if not impossible for many of you this year, and any heart goes out to you.

My heart also goes out to all of those who do not have a family to hold close because they are the source of your pain.

My heart goes out to the Native communities, for whom this is not a time of Thanksgiving but of mourning.

My heart goes out to all those people who are not afforded the same rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

I see you all and hold you in my heart today and always.

And I pledge that I am doing more than keeping you all in my heart. If this year has taught me anything it is how much more I have to learn and how much more I have to stand up and take action as a White woman.

One small thing that I am doing this holiday season is focusing on giving back and making a conscious decision on where I spend my money. This year I am focusing on supporting Native owned small businesses for holiday gift giving.

Another thing that I have been doing this year is working to educate myself more deeply on issues. I am sharing these books that I have read or have on my list to complete this year. In case you are interested to join me in this journey of knowledge building.
