We all have our dark sides, our shadows, our monsters. This darkness can move us to lash out at others, to hide parts that we were taught were shameful. We all have parts, whether we are ‘whole’ people or those who are actually multiple.
And truly, there is no part of self that can be killed off. We must somehow learn to face these scary parts and learn to love them.
We must learn to love them because they have helped us to survive. They carry important roles and functions for us. It is our job to figure out how to update those roles or functions to the adults we are today and the situations in which we find ourselves, instead of the roles they were created to help us when we were younger.
If we can learn to love our most unlovable parts we truly begin to heal. All parts of self are valuable.
The work of changing the world, starts with the work we do in ourselves.
