This is such an interesting take on hope, and it resonates with my experience doing the work that I do. One of my jobs is to be the holder of hope for my clients when they cannot hope for themselves.

If hope is based on the conviction that things will turn out well, then that hope is fragile and easily broken. But hope based on finding or making meaning is far more stable and powerful.

If a person can make meaning out of something horrible or senseless that has happened to them, then they can overcome how that event has impacted them.

I hold hope for my clients that they can overcome, that they can find meaning, that they can be healthier and happier, that their suffering was not meaningless.
