  • Transgender Day of Remembrance 2018

This week is Transgender Awareness Week and today  is the Transgender Day of Remembrance.  This day was started by trans activist Gwendolyn Ann Smith in 1999. It is a day we memorialize those in the transgender communities who have been murdered as a result of transphobia. Trans and femme women of color are at particularly high risk of this type of violence. As we support the transgender communities in fighting for their civil rights and protections, it is important too to honor and remember those who have been lost. May they rest in power.
